MY JAW HURTS, 2023

Video projection, audio, visqueen, acrylic paint

66’’ x 106’’

MY JAW HURTS is a window into a pink world. Filled with stickiness and saliva and our sensual extremities, these saturated pictures show a major disconnect between activities of give and take. The installation invites the viewer to peer through the lens of an uneasy and disturbing world, populated by deranged noise and obedient subjects. The disruptive hands harass and overtake the viewer's perception, enabling an opportunity for the viewer to reflect on the activities the subjects are introduced to.

The work offers a commentary on messy discourse that is seen as standard in the present socio-political climate, hanging and dragging us down as an endless cycle. Whether the subject is forced to participate or does so voluntarily, the results lead to a loss of dignity. The subjects’ endeavors show a mix of willingness and dread, until they can’t take anymore or have given up completely. Events spiral out of control, yet the subject has been chewed up and spit out.
